I really think that the Legend of Zelda-series is one of the best there is, no matter which platform. Although I’ve never really played the very first few I am aware that they made their mark in video game history.
My first Zelda game actually was Ocarina of Time. Back when I got it, I just saw it as an awesome adventure game which kept me playing for hours without even realizing how time flew by. And now, playing through the game again about 10 years later, it was just as awesome.
Back then I skipped Majora’s Mask and got in touch with Zelda again when Wind Waker had been out for a while. It was one of the budget-games at a local store and I figured that something with the name Zelda written on it couldn’t be bad, so I grabbed a copy. Hardly did I know I would be staying up nights just sailing around, discovering new islands in that lovely universe that is Wind Waker. Although a lot of people thought the cel-shading graphics were a bad choice I think it looked wonderful. It was cute but not too cartoonish, it was colorful but also gloomy and creepy. If you skipped this title just because of the unusual graphics you can be sure to have missed the best Gamecube title there was.
Now, after having played through Ocarina of Time again and with a wonderful Special Edition of Wind Waker waiting on the shelf, I took one step back and got myself Majoras Mask for the Nintendo 64, which I’m currently playing. Although N64 might not look as good on a 37” flat screen tv it’s an awesome experience playing this game and realizing that I missed a whole lot, and having the chance to discover the whole world of Majoras Mask for the first time.
